The electrofuel sun methanol, or eMethanol as we call it, will revolutionize the aviation, shipping, and surface transportation sector by providing a net zero carbon emission free high-energy fuel. eMethanol is also a great raw material to replace petroleum-based production materials. The methanol can also be reversed into electricity when needed, making solar energy dispatchable upon the need.
The Gotland based 200 MW solar park provides the necessary electricity and heat to drive the hydrogen and methanol production.

eMETHANOL PRODUCTION POWERED BY 200 MW SOLAR PARK
SVENSK ENERGILAGRING will establish eMethanol production facilities powered by a co-located solar energy parks of 200 megawatt, located on the Swedish island Gotland in the middle of the Baltic sea. The technology is modular and can be scaled up to any required size and capacity.
Each container based production unit requires approximately 3,2 megawatts which is sourced from the co-located CPVT solar energy park. Each container will produce 50L of eMethanol per hour.
The electrofuel methanol is produced where it can be consumed. Any excess volumes are easily distributed or exported to other markets as a circular zero carbon emission fuel or raw material to the manufacturing industry.
In addition, Gotland as a region is in great need of balanced power to the local power grid. Our electro methanol can easily be reversed back into electricity to meet the current demand. Other useful outputs produced from the facility are heat, clean water and oxygen.
WORLDWIDE METHANOL USAGE FORECAST
The worldwide methanol usage is growing and rapidly shifting from petroleum based to bio-, and especially electro-based methanol. The volumes are forecasted to increase substantially in line with improved production volumes of electro-based Methanol.
METHANOL VERSUS HYDROGEN
The electrofuel eMethanol has several advantages compared to Hydrogen, but no real disadvantages. Methanol is stored in atmospheric pressure and it works as a circular carbon-free fuel for both combustion engines and fuel cells. It is also a common raw material for the manufacturing industry. When the electro-methanol is used for manufacturing it binds CO2 and therefore reduces the CO2-level in the biosphere. When electro-methanol is used as fuel, it has a circular zero CO2 emission. This means that it only returns the CO2 that was captured in the production process. Electro-methanol has the highest efficiency ratio between energy and cost and will level with petroleum-, and bio-based fuel within only a few years.
There are a wide variety of areas that use methanol as a raw material or fuel and have done for many years. However the future is the shift from petroleum based methanol to electro sun methanol resulting in being totally carbon neutral.

SVENSK ENERGILAGRING and MELACS PARTICIPATION IN E-FUEL SEMINAR SEPTEMBER 2021 (in Swedish).
September 17th 2021 Energicentrum Gotland, Region Gotland and Länstyrelsen Gotland hosted a seminar regarding electrofuel. SVENSK ENERGILAGRING participated with a presentation about sun methanol characteristics and production method. The sun-methanol will be produced locally in Gotland. We call it sun methanol because it is circular-produced by our solar park as the energy source, a consept know as Power to X. So except electricity and heat generated by our 200 megawatt solar park we only add water and carbon from the surrounding area.
